GAY BUENOS AIRES

ABOUT THE CITY...
Welcome to Buenos Aires, the "Paris of South America" for its cafe culture and French-style architecture, whose art and culture descend from Italian, Spanish, French and British immigrants. The Argentina Homosexual Community, the country's first gay rights organization, was created in 1984. LGBT rights in Argentina are the most advanced in Latin America. Homosexuality has been legal in Argentina since 1853, and gay marriage since 2010.
Although there isn't a proper “Gay Area” in Buenos Aires, there's definitely a scene in the Palermo/Villa Crespo area and in San Telmo, where lots of queer artivism happens daily.

Afterwards visit the Recoleta district and the greenest area of the city. As we can see the Recoleta differs from other areas of the city for the style of its buildings and luxurious houses surrounded by gardens. One of the main points of interest and most visited tourist place of the city is the Monumental Cemetery with marble mausoleums, Greek temples and small Egyptian pyramids that join numerous other monumental cenotaphs in art nouveau style. Take a look to a symbol of the city, the Floralis Generica, a flower of eighteen tons of aluminum and steel whose petals close at sunset and then reopen at the dawn of a new day.

Buenos Aires • Southern Tour with Montserrat, La Boca & San Telmo

Let’s begin our special Gay friendly Tour of Buenos Aires with the Southern Part of the City. Welcome to Montserrat, one of the two oldest neighborhoods of Buenos Aires and the place where the most important events of our history took place. Let’s begin with Plaza de Mayo, a focal point for the history of the city. This has been the scene of many historical events since the May Revolution of 1810, which gave rise to independence from Spain, to become in the 70s place of commemoration for the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo of desparecidos children. San Telmo is the second oldest neighborhood of the city of Buenos Aires. Start from the lovely Mafalda statue, the most known cartoon of the country, famous all around the world and an ambassador of the Argentine culture. Stop at the Market of San Telmo, first opened in 1897. During the tour enjoy a tasting of Local Alfajores (2 tastes) and learn more about this typical sweet from Argentina. Next Stop another super colorful district of the city! Who has never seen Buenos Aires represented by photos of metal houses of the most varied colors? Welcome to one of the most original and tourist areas of the city, the Boca district, which was for years the destination of many migrants especially Italians who built their houses in wood and sheet coloring them with bright paints, thus giving the area its typical and fascinating. Start the tour by entering the most important attraction of la Boca, the Caminito. This characteristic street full of murals, restaurants, bars, tango dancers, painters and craft markets offer a unique and hard to forget experience. Continue to the football stadium, one of the two most famous teams in the city, the Boca Juniors, known as "La Bombonera". Both Diego Armando Maradona and Leon Messi played in the Boca, as you can see looking around us from the many murals and souvenirs that represent them, with an atypical and asymmetrical D. shape.

The locals divide the neighborhood in many other small areas like Palermo Soho, Palermo Holiwood, Palermo Pacifico, Palermo north, Palermo new, Alto Palermo or Bosques de Palermo, and many others. Explore Palermo Soho, a small area of Palermo around that grow between the square Serrano and the square of the Armenian immigrants. It is a newly fashionable area for local designers, cafés, restaurants, bars, street art & culture. The traditional low houses (casas chorizo) have been adapted into boutiques and bars, creating a bohemian feel. Both squares have a crafts fair, but the main attraction are the little streets with the best street art that you can find in the city of Buenos Aires.
